According to the notification on the official website, the distribution across categories is made as per the Government of India directive. OBC-NCL: 27 per cent, SC: 15 per cent, ST: 7.5 per cent and the rest 50.5 per cent will be from the Common Merit List (CML) that includes all category candidates. Each category includes the PWD subcategory of 3 per cent.

- General: 50.5 per cent
- OBC-NCL: 27 per cent
- SC: 15 per cent
- ST: 7.5 per cent
Category: Cut-off Marks
- Common Merit List (CML): 115
- OBC-NCL: 74
- SC: 53
- ST: 47
- The candidates who passed their qualifying examination in 2012 or earlier;
- The candidates who attempted IIT-JEE in 2012 or earlier;
- The candidates who are born earlier than the stipulated date of birth i.e General/OBC candidates born before October 1, 1989 and SC/ST/PwD candidates born before October 1, 1984
- The candidates, who, as per records, appeared in IIT-JEE in 2012 or earlier but have not volunteered the information while registering for JEE (Main) - 2014 will also be removed from the list before short listing;
- The candidates who took admission through JEE (Advanced) - 2013 by paying, irrespective of whether they continued their study or not.
